Lessons From Nature
Summary: How different plants and animals bond together to survive

Nature gives us plenty of examples of the power of bonding together- on land, in sea and in the sky.

Strawberries are one of my favorite fruits.  I know little about planting, but this piece caught my eye.  Strawberries are a companion plant.  Marjorie Holmes wrote in the Guidepost Prayer Companion ( www.guidepostbooks.com ) that a friend told her, "Whenever I plant two touching each other they grow twice as big and have twice as many runners and berries."

In the sea, I read a story from La Parguera, off the shore of Puerto Rico.  Tourists will take boat rides out at night and observe a nighttime phenomenon known as bioluminescence- the glow given off by tiny marine organisms.  When one protozoan comes in contact with another, the nerves of one trigger the light of another.  They can't light up on their own, but have to touch one another to do it.

In the air, some of the most magnificent trees are redwood trees, a sight to behold if you are on the west coast.  They are incredibly wide, wide enough even to drive a car through and reach far up into the sky.  I would have thought that the redwood trees have very deep roots.  Not so.  The roots are very shallow for trees that tall.  So how do these mighty trees grow so strong and high?  They spread their roots wide and intertwine with other nearby redwood trees.  By combining their roots, they are much stronger than they would be individually.

So can we with the power of our networking group:

- Build a strong "root" system for support during the challenges we face in the search
- Make each other more aware of opportunities to shine our "lights"
- Help each reach higher in the search and on the job, by sharing our experiences

Add to the collective energy of our group.  Take part!  Send an email, make a phone call, come to a local or chapter meeting!
